Walking in rural and urban landscapes can be compared to peeling back layers of a life and its accumulated experiences and conversations. The land opens up paths and tracks, pavements and streets which act as routes of instructions, desires, habitations and obligations.
As we trace our different paths we are also exploring our personal archives as a means of relating our own memories and histories to the spaces we walk in. Perhaps it is as walkers that we can create our own fictions in the theatre of landscape, whether they are stories, poems, dramas or pictures.

Each step taken along a route becomes part of a rhythm which feeds reflection and the momentum of absorbing the surrounding space: birds on take-off, animals sauntering, insects in congregation, people hustling, traffic growling, buskers plucking electric tempo. Each being, each group is part of a pulse of existence.

The path seen from the perspective of the walker can often be viewed as mediating between ideas of absence and presence. As a process, the movement of the walker becomes a performance, animating the space of the path with their trace. This ZONA zine aims to discover new modes of observation and being in the landscape. It is about initiating new ways in which the walker can engage with space and place as an active player in the landscape.

mishmash zine is a black & white A5 size photo & text zine, 40 pages, printed on white 80gsm matt paper including stiff card cover, staple bound.
The zine plays with the concept of walking through an imaginary maze or labyrinth where the walker is confronted with juxtaposed images and texts on the journey. The maze and the labyrinth are of course two separate forms of intricate routes, so either can be applied to the imaginary arrangement of this mishmash zine.
The zine is printed in soft light tones to give a dreamy effect.
